10 Dead, 15+ Wounded In Istanbul As Explosion Hits Popular Tourist Site

Ten people have been confirmed dead and upwards of fifteen have been injured following an explosion in Istanbul’s Sultanahmet Square today.

The area has been described as heart of the city’s tourist district, in close proximity to the landmark Blue Mosque. Police have cordoned off the area, and medical teams are attending to the wounded.

Unconfirmed reports say the blast was caused by a suicide bomber, but investigations into the cause of the explosion are being conducted.
Suicide bombers killed over 100 people in the country’s capital of Ankara in October last year. 

It’s not yet known if any Australians were present during the explosion.
