Childish Gambino went ahead and delivered one of the straight-up funkiest records of 2016 in “Awaken, My Love!”, and single Redbone signaled a bold and holy shit so fucking smooth direction for the unfairly talented Donald Glover.
All of this is to say it’d take a lot to add anything of consequence to the track. A lil’ earlier this morning, Melbourne tune lords Northeast Party House managed to do just that for their Like A Version.
Starting off with some serious Toto vibes, the gang imbued the track with a subtle drive. Singer Zach Hamilton-Reeves and spesh guest Nkechi Anele took advantage of that foundation for some lush crooning, before the whole band cut absolutely sick by way of LCD Soundsystem.
