Watch: John Hillcoat Directed Grinderman Teaser

Despite the convenient promotional dovetail between music, film and fan anticipation, album video trailers just might be the most banal form of non-news the music industry produces. I mean, if I wanted to hear 30 seconds of a song set to otherworldly visuals I’d watch an actual film clip then look away after half a minute, right? Wrong. Wrong. Wrong. I was of the “album trailers are pointless” mindset until about two minutes ago when I set my eyes on this epic album trailer for Grinderman’s forthcoming sophomore effort Grinderman 2.

Directed by longtime Nick Cave collaborator John Hillcoat (The Road, The Proposition) the frenzied, thirty second video includes a laser-eyed wolf, nods to ancient Greece, synchronized gunshots and a bathroom you might find in Scarface’s coke mansion. Oh, we’re also treated to the tantalizingly brief squall of someone’s guitar being used as a deadly weapon.

Grinderman 2 is slated for release September 14.
