WATCH: Ed Sheeran Tries And Fails To Rap Nicki Minaj’s ‘Monster’ Verse

There’s a level of drunken bravado that inspires mere mortals to think they could do a decent job of rapping the Nicki Minaj verse from Kanye‘s ‘Monster‘. Usually, they’ll get as far as “pull up in the monster automobile” before things turn to awkward mumbling and regret. You’ve been there. I’ve been there. There’s no point even trying to deny it.
Earnest balladeer, occasional rapper and vocal hip-hop enthusiast Ed Sheeran is currently doing the rounds to promote his new album, and this week, he ended up as a guest on The Breakfast Club on New York‘s Power 105.1. When discussing Nicki’s current beef with Remy Ma, the singer foolishly bragged that he knows all the words to her iconic verse.
The hosts called him on this bold claim, as you would, and now the world has this truly blessed video of Ed Sheeran umming and ahhing his way through Nicki’s dense rhymes. Credit where credit’s due, he does appear to know a fair percentage of the words, but let this be a PSA to anyone who thinks they can just rap ‘Monster’: you can’t.
