The day-to-day life of a top talk show host is nearly inconceivable. Delivering tightly-scripted entertainment, night after bloody night for years on end, requires some kind of godly work ethic.
And then, there’s the small matter of sleep. Late night talk shows offer a Pavlovian response to their dedicated audiences, and that message is “alright lads, dust off the Sakata crumbs, it’s time you caught some z’s.”
Those on the other side of the camera – blokes like Jimmy Kimmel – probably don’t get to kip for hours after. There’s still a lot of celebrity schmoozing to be done, ya know.
This knowledge that makes footage of Britney Spears pranking a napping Kimmel so compelling.
On one hand, it’s the kind of thing his show lives for. On the other, if Jimmy was wrested from his precious slumber by anyone but pop royalty (and a bevy of gyrating blokes), the resulting footage would eventually be filed as evidence.
In any case, observe as the evergreen Britney flops and flails her new track Make Me on a perplexed Mr Kimmel, and observe as his bleary eyes accept he won’t even be hearing Toxic. Watch:
