’90s R&B singer Toni Braxton has just published a new memoir entitled “Unbreak My Heart”, and boy does she have some cool and not-crazy things to say in it. Just normal things! Like that her abortion or vaccinations might be the cause of her son’s autism!
In her defense, she does say that she no longer believes her 11-year-old son Diezel is autistic as a punishment from God because of an abortion she had in her 30s: “I knew I’d taken a life. I believed God’s payback was to give my son autism… I have since realized that my son is special and learns in a different way.”
She said the belief came from her childhood in a strict Christian parents, who made her memorise 26 Bible passages each week and banned her from wearing pants.
But none of that’s stopped her from other theories about why her son may be autistic; in the book she also writes about the demonstrably false link between childhood vaccination and autism, saying “Maybe it’s just a coincidence that after my son’s first MMR vaccine, I began to notice changes in him”. Oof. You need to STAHP, Toni Braxton.
