Taylor Swift Calls Out Sexist Critics on Australian Radio

Taylor Swift knows exactly what you’ve been saying behind her back, and she’s not very happy about it.

The impeccably turned-out pop music giraffe is in Australia at the moment because she has a new album to promote, and also because she’s a grown-up now and can do whatever she damn well pleases.
Earlier today, she stopped by 2DayFM‘s Jules, Merrick and Sophie show, and things got a little heated when, according to paper of record the Sydney Morning Herald, someone asked about her propensity for writing songs about ex-boyfriends.
“No one says that about Ed Sheeran,” she said of the ‘Sing’ singer and noted ginger sex ferret. “No one says that about Bruno Mars. They’re all writing about their exes, their current girlfriends, their love life and no one raises a red flag there.”
“You’re going to have people who are going to see the depth from which you approached a song, the fact that you put your real emotions into it, and that’s valuable and that’s good and that’s real,” she continued to fume.
“Then you’re going to have people who are going to say, ‘Oh, you know, like, she just writes songs about her ex-boyfriends’, and I think frankly that’s just a very sexist angle to take.”
“They use you writing songs about your life as a way to play detective, and for me, I have a really strict personal policy that I never name names, so anybody saying a song is about a specific person is purely speculating.”

1989 is out in a week, and based on this, it may be safe to presume that this time around, the liner notes won’t include a secret code that points to exactly which no-good ex each of the songs is about.
“The most important thing for me is to maintain artistic integrity, which means as a songwriter, I still continue to write about my life,” Swift concluded. “I could very well water it down.”
So there you have it.
We physically can’t stand the fact that there’s still so damn long to wait for 1989, so we’ll be watching this video of Tay-Sway and these kittens until next Monday.
