Talib Kweli-Headlined Rap City Mini-Festival Cancelled

UPDATE: The following message has appeared on Rap City’s Facebook page:

The Australian festival massacre continues, as the third quasi-annual Rap City mini-festival, set to be headlined by hip hop heavyweight (and confused non-Peter Andre collaborator) Talib Kweli has been cancelled. Rap City‘s lineup also featured Homeboy Sandman and Trademark Da Skydiver, and was scheduled to tour the country in early October,

No official word has come from Rap City organisers, but ticket vendors Moshtix and Oztix and the Hi-FI venues in Melbourne, Brisbane and Sydney all have the event listed as “Cancelled”.

Australia is proving to be a cRap destination for live hip hop. In April this year, the Nas headlined Movement festival was cancelled; the day after that, the fourth Supafest, to be headlined by Fiddy and TI was postponed until November, with solid dates and venues yet to be announced. Then of course, the disaster that was last year’s Heatwave festival was well publicised. It’s not just hip hop festivals that are suffering, though – Harvest went down last week, Pyramid Rock isn’t happening, and Summadayze is unlikely to go ahead.

Will 2013 be the year the festival bubble finally burst?
