Sydney’s Sweaty Glory Hole Club 77 To Be Resurrected As Gastro Diner

If you played Word Association with a munted person who tore up Sydney‘s nightlife scene circa the 2000s, and asked them the first thing that came to mind at the mention of Club 77, you’d get ‘dark’, ‘dirty’ and ‘dope’.
Oh, and the fact its toilets ran more ferociously than Usain Bolt
The Darlinghurst institution was *the* place for sets by the likes of DJ HookieBandits residents Kato, Dan De Caires and Spruce Lee, The Bang Gang DJs (#RIP) and reg nights by electro-pushers Starfuckers, before it unceremoniously shut up shop.
      Yesssss DJ Hookie
Actual tears were shed by partygoers: where else would be as sympathetic to the munt?
Today, friends, we see Club 77 rise from the ashes like a beautiful, bitchin’ Phoenix as……….. a gastro diner.
77 owner Jaime Wirth (himself Bang Gang alum) and business partner Michael Delany have been busy rebooting Sydney’s pub scene in the years since it closed, injecting new life into The Norfolk, The Carrington, The Forresters, Santa Barbara, The Abercrombie, Queenies and the Oxford Tavern (they’ve since sold some off for big $$), but are now returning to their first and best love.
We don’t know much about the project but there are a plethora of hints being dropped on its Facebook page.

Lovers of 77 are already rejoicing that, although not the sweaty drug-den of its previous life, the Darlinghurst haunt is back in some form.

I once ate 7 googs here. Looks like I’ll be chewing on something other than my face now.
