Sigur Rós To Appear On The Simpsons This Month

Ambient Iceland dudes, Sigur Rós are to appear in a Simpsons episode later this month. To give a mildly ‘spoiler type’ rundown, the episode is titled ‘The Saga of Carl’ and sees Homer, Moe, Lenny and Carl buy a winning lottery ticket, which Carl hijacks before fleeing to “his home country of Iceland”. And if Iceland is synonymous with something music-related that isn’t Bjork, it’s pretty sure to be Sigur Rós! So, the bemoaning team trail Carl there, where LO AND BEHOLD, the band and the show have forged a collab! Sigur Rós’ creative capital for the show spans an interpretation of the theme song as well as original music within the episode’s score. And for some trivia care of the band’s website, Sigur Rós have written and performed more original music for The Simpsons than any other outside band in the show’s history. Respect.
Matt Groening says “I’m a longtime fan of Sigur Rós, and we’re honored to bring their Icelandic, ambient moods to our goofy cartoon show”. The episode airs in The USA on May 19.
