Last night, in yet another premature celebrity death, Jimmy Lee Lindsey Jr. better known as Jay Reatard passed away in his sleep. He was 29 years of age. What the fuck is going on Reaper? Are we as a species becoming unhealthier, taking more chances or just the collective recipients of bad karma? Perhaps the web just makes us more aware of shit like this. Either way Jay Reatard was a fiercely individual artist and his death was unfairly premature.
Jay’s record label Goner Records (irony not lost on anybody) made the announcement yesterday: ‘It is with great sadness that we report the passing of our good friend Jay Reatard. Jay died in his sleep last night. We will pass along information about funeral arrangements when they are made public.’
The cause of death is currently unknown.
