RIP Damn Arms

If you were to limit my iTunes play list to songs originating from Australian EPs then the incendiary sextet of electro-punk gems which comprise Damn Arm’s Patterns EP would stand uncontested above the rest. Far above the rest. Like a million plays above the rest.

It saddens me then to announce what months of inactivity have all but confirmed – Damn Arms have officially disbanded. Last Friday keyboardist Yama Indra made the split official by announcing that no further material will be recorded under the Damn Arms name: “Earlier in the year, Tim & I agreed to part ways musically as far as the eye can see. Though we are still close friends, neither of us will be writing any further material as Damn Arms. We finally did our last DJ appearances together just the other week so i thought it was time to write something in appreciation & recognition of Damn Arms & everyone involved.”

The announcement followed the departure of guitarist Ben Browning and drummer Simon Parker to Cut Copy and Lost Valentinos respectively and a new musical trajectory as Damn Arms forged ahead as a disco-inspired two-piece releasing Destination parts I and II on Bang Gang 12’s. Bassist Tim Sullivan had posted a farewell note via the band’s Myspace earlier this year saying: “ive left damn arms. its been a load of fun and is something ill be super proud of forever.”

RIP Damn Arms.
