Cut Copy Vs. Hercules and Love Affair and Damn Arms

I’ve really turned a corner on the new Cut Copy LP. Maybe it was my latent love of “Bright Like Neon Love”, their backing track reliant live show or the cringe inducing lyrics that irked me, but for whatever reason I didn’t really give “In Ghost Colours” a chance. Fast forward to today and their subtle fusion of classic pop, disco, shoegaze and new wave is fast amassing plays in my iPod. Anyone who can filter Panda Bear, Neu!, My Bloody Valentine, New Order and Fleetwood Mac into one coherent sound deserves praise, something which the Melbourne trio are garnering the world over – even in the cynical American indie press.

Fans awaiting new output (including the recently converted such as myself) will be happy to learn that Modular have announced the release of a digital single, due out November 24. Besides featuring remixes by fellow Melburnians Damn Arms and DFA alumni Hercules and Love Affair the digital single will also feature a new track entitled “Sands of Time”. Not too sure what it will sound like but at least the band are consistent, totally cringed when I read that title. It sounds like the instrumental opening credits for “The Bold and the Beautiful” or something.
