No, CeeLo Green Didn’t Actually Take An Exploding Phone To The Face

Full credit to CeeLo Green: fabricating footage of himself taking an exploding smartphone to the noggin was a bloody excellent way to garner attention, even if it did apparently have a few fans worried.
The muso has issued a video statement to Facebook explaining that he is, in fact, alive and well after the vision emerged overnight.
In the initial clip, the singer can be seen fielding a call from a studio, before the smoking handset combusts. A stunned Green can be seen collapsing to the floor, before the CCTV-style footage fades to black:
The appearance of that legit-seeming clip understandably had punters asking q’s about the man’s condition, and fears the Fuck You! singer may have actually been injured by a fiery phone spurred Green to clarify the issue.

“Truthfully, I’m really upset that anybody had to be emotionally disturbed by what they saw today,”
Green said, before explaining the staged footage was intended to be part of a larger project.

That project? A video for his new act Gnarly Davidson, which already bears sooome phonetic similarities to his prior Danger Mouse collab Gnarls Barkley.

“It’s supposed to set up and introduce the new character identity, you know what I’m saying?”
If we’re going with the burned Two-Face vibes here, he could at least have chosen the name Gnarly Dent.
