Nile Rodgers Explains Groove in the Daft Punk’s ‘The Collaborators’

Last year legendary producer, collaborator, and pop music visionary, Nile Rodgers dropped news of a most exciting partnership, one which sounded too good to be true and which many cynics conceded probably was, when he announced he was working with Daft Punk on their anticipate retro futuristic disco comeback. Having defined disco funk with Chic and with a swag of mega-hit collaborations with the likes of David Bowie, Duran Duran, Madonna, and INXS, Rodgers loomed as the ideal addition to camp DP, and ensured that, yes, this was gong to be special.

Equally froth-worthy Random Access Memories hired hands, Giorgio Moroder and Todd Edwards have already given their fascinating insights into life in the studio with the enigmatic Parisian beat-makers as part of The Creators Project, with Rodgers explaining that any cultural or age boundaries were rendered null and void, bonding over the power of the groove.

I feel like I’m working with people who grew up with me and feel it the
same way we felt the vibe when we were creating this stuff. It’s like
they went back to go forward
.”

There is an excellent moment towards the end of the interview where Rodgers is asked to play his prized riff from the collaboration. After tentatively searching for the right chord, Rodgers shocks even himself as he is reminded how cool the riff is. To be be fair, it does sound totally banger worthy.
