Empire Of The Sun tread that fine line between The Flaming Lips’ character driven theatrics and the cheese ball wankery of say The Darkness. One side is totally credible, admirable even, while the other is kinda lame and laughable. Thus far Steele and Littlemore have managed to avoid becoming a parody of their own grandiose ambition and that’s despite the idiosyncratic get ups and elaborate video shoots. But with the release of the below teaser for their new single “Standing On The Shore” with its mention of “swordfish girls” and Lord Of The Rings style voice over I fear the duo may have crossed over to the dark(ness) side.
