Man In His 20s Dies, Eight Hospitalised After Defqon.1 Festival In Sydney

UPDATE: Police have now revealed that the man was a 26-year-old from Albury. 46 people were arrested for drug offences at the festival, including four for drug supply.

In news that is sadly all too common at the start of the summer festival season, a young man has died after attending the Defqon.1 dance party at Sydney International Regatta Centre in Penrith.
The man remains unidentified, but is believed to have been in his 20s. Police said of the incident:
“A man was located unconscious at the Defqon.1 festival at about 11.30 last night. He was taken to Nepean Hospital where he was pronounced deceased a short time later.”

Police are currently investigating the circumstances surrounding the man’s death, and whether or not he took illegal substances. Another eight punters were hospitalised over the course of the festival.

Last year, police cracked down on illicit drugs at Defqon.1 – a squad of 200 officers at the site made approximately 83 drug events on the Saturday of the festival, including one man who was allegedly found in possession of 250 pills.
