Kanye West’s ‘Power’ Video Preview

The concept of releasing a ‘making of’ video for a music video clip before releasing the actual music video clip seems kinda confusing, but Kanye West cares not for my lame ass ability to comprehend his marketing strategy. His Marco Brambilla- directed video for “Power” drops later today and the preview clip (embedded for your viewing pleasure below) is as bombastic and melodramatic enough to pique my curiosity.

The piece, made by creative agency The 88 is called From Civilization to Power: The making of Kanye West’s POWER by Marco Brambilla, and they write:

“POWER” shows a continuous camera move from extreme close-up of Mr. West revealing an a neoclassical video tableau showing characters and creatures surrounding him in an abstract environment – all moving in extreme slow motion. Inspired by Michelangelo’s frescos in the Sistine Chapel, the piece depicts a faux historical moment – an empire on the brink of collapse from its own excess, decadence and corruption.

Sheesh when did hip hop become all earnest and arty? I kinda miss the days of pistol whipping outside the club, chest thumping bravado and big breasted honeys. Humbug.
