Joey Bada$$ Attempts To Live Up To Own Name, Punches Security Guard At Falls

Among other things associated with the annual Falls Festival – such as sunburn, sawdusted underwear, and the shelving of one’s dingbats – the occasional bout of, let’s call it artistic angst, is about as synonymous with the annual New Year’s festival as anything else.

So from that particular wing of the Tim Rogers School of Tackling Missy Higgins comes this.
American rap fellow and general young upstart Joey Bada$$ ran afoul of the Byron Bay constabulary following an incident at the festival wherein he allegedly punched a security guard.
Bada$$ – real name Jo-Vaughn Jalani Virginie – was apparently about to take to the stage on the Friday night of the festival when he was approached by a 20 year-old man working as security at the event. Something happened, and Bada$$ allegedly went full boontah, striking the guard in the face.
Police confirmed in a statement that a 20 year-old man was treated for injuries including a broken nose and other facial injuries. Following the conclusion of his set, Bada$$ was arrested and charged with assault occasioning actual bodily harm. He was subsequently refused bail and appeared in the Lismore Bail Court on Saturday.
He was then granted bail to appear at Byron Local Court on March 19th.
Joey Bada$$ still has two dates remaining on his current Australian festival tour, appearing with Run The Jewels in Sydney this Wednesday, followed by a Melbourne show at The Forum on Thursday.
