James Blake Wins 2013 Mercury Prize For ‘Overgrown’

Electro-crooner James Blake has been announced as the winner of the 2013 Mercury Prize at a ceremony in London for his second album Overgrown, beating eleven other nominees, including chamaleonic rockers Arctic Monkeys and resurging veteran David Bowie, who were both considered short odds to win.

Blake’s debut self-titled album was nominated for the Mercury Prize in 2011, but lost to PJ Harvey’s Let England Shake.
