Mercury Music Prize Nominations Announced

The 2011 nominees for perennial British music award the Mercury Prize have been announced. The annual bestowal goes to the artist/band that produces the best album of the year and it is considered one of the world’s more credible music awards.

The shortlist typically features a diverse and invariably unpredictable mix of worthy contenders. 2011 has proved no different, including awarded luminaries like PJ Harvey in the mix amidst previous winners Elbow, neu dubstep favourite James Blake, and rap prodigy Tinie Tempah; however the front runner is unarguably the biggest cross over artist since the days of Prince, platinum-cracking singer Adele.

The shortlist for the Barclay Card Mercury Music Prize 2011 are:

Metronomy – The English Riviera
Adele – 21
Everything Everything – Man Alive
Ghostpoet – Peanut Butter Blues & Melancholy Jam
Anna Calvi – Anna Calvi
Tinie Tempah – Disc-Overy
Elbow – Build A Rocket Boys
Gwilym Simcock – Good Days at Schloss Elmau
James Blake – James Blake
PJ Harvey – Let England Shake
Katy B – On A Mission
King Creosote & Jon Hopkins – Diamond Mine
