Is “Sweet Disposition” The Most Licensable Track Of All Time?

On the cusp of the new millennium, amidst rampant Y2K paranoia (remember that shit?) and the tropical strains of J-Lo’s “Waiting For Tonight” (remember that shit?), a bespectacled, vegan egg-head named Moby caused a minor music business stir by licensing all 18 tracks from his ubiquitous fifth studio album Play almost instantly after its release. Dude would have made mad bank.

Fast forward to the year 2010 and a Melbourne four-piece called The Temper Trap may have out-muscled the collective commercial power of that entire album with just one song. Here’s to promoting sporting grand finals, indie rom-coms and the biggest beverage brand in the world with THE EXACT SAME SONG – OVER AND OVER AGAIN.

*If you have any theories on why “Sweet Disposition” is so pervasive in the world of advertising please let us know – we’re running an official study. The hypothesis links soaring vocals to the part of our brain that controls buying on impulse.

**We couldn’t find embeddable videos of “Sweet Disposition” in Underbelly: A Tale Of Two Cities, Greek, The Good Wife, The Deep End, 90210 or the majority of Sports Tonight episodes from the year 2009.
