The undisputed kings of the dancefloor, Hot Chip, have announced a run of gigs in Australia while they’re over here for Yours & Owls Festival and Golden Plains in 2020. You didn’t think they’d just light up the floor in two festivals now, did you?

After dropping their huge seventh album, A Bath Full Of Ecstasy, back in June, Hot Chip have been touring hard and turning venues across the world into full-blown dance parties, and will return to Australia in March 2020 to bring the boogie to us.
After headlining Farmer & The Owl in Wollongong on February 29, the Chippies will hit Canberra’s Kambri on March 1, before heading north to Brisbane’s Fortitude Valley Music Hall on March 4, then back down to Sydney’s Enmore Theatre on March 6, and finally turning it out at Melbourne’s Forum on March 7, before heading bush for their final show of the run at Golden Plains in Meredith on March 8.
The UK kings of indie pop will be joined by Harvey Sutherland for all dates except Canberra, so be prepared for bul party.
PEDESTRIAN.TV spoke with guitarist Al Doyle back in June about the album and just how special their last show at the Sydney Opera House was (seriously, that place was fucking heaving) and whether we’d see them down under again soon, and Al was particularly coy about it.
[The Sydney Opera House gig] was really, really cool, and something that we all remember – actually we were just talking about it the other day. But yeah, I’m sure we’ll make it down in some form or another in some way or another very soon.
But honestly, if there’s one band I would recommend anyone and everyone to see live; it’s Hot Chip. There is an absolute beauty and very deep joy in watching the whole collective go entirely off-script and improv a while, completely tearing a place apart.
I mean just look at their recent show in Glasgow. Heaving. Absolutely nobody standing still there.
And the sheer, unadulterated chaos and fun is what I reckon keeps the band fresh and keen to keep having a fucken ball in the face of all the negativity in the world.
