As keyboardist Edwin Congreave noted in December, Foals owe their Australian visit to more than just festival dates and spontaneous jam sessions. With an eye on their next record, the Oxford quintet arrived a few weeks before their scheduled Laneway shows to lap up the sunshine, write new material and record demos with Jono Ma (Lost Valentinos), brother of Foals visual collaborator Dave Ma. According to Edwin, who we interviewed with bassist Walter Gervers at Sydney Laneway yesterday, Jono’s expertise with electronics has lent a “strong synth element” to the “four or five” “really varied” tracks they’ve worked on so far.
