Thursday night, while Sydney congratulated itself in Darlinghurst, three fifths of Foals claimed their own piece of the city just up the road. Currently in Australia to tour Laneway, take advantage of the sunlight and write and record demos for their third studio album, this time last week singer/guitarist Yannis Philippakis, drummer Jack Bevan and guitarist Jimmy Smith played an improvised set at new Tatlers night Love Buzz.
Curated by Lost Valentinos guitarist Jono Ma and Parisian photographer, retail consultant and nightlife aficionado Chi Chi Menendez, Love Buzz hosted a spot of “ecstatic improv” (Yannis’ words) and some inter-band jamming thanks to cameos from Warpaint drummer Stella Mozgawa and Ma himself on synthesizers. One could draw connections everywhere. Jono’s older brother Dave is a frequent Foals collaborator while Mozgawa’s impressive resume includes a stint with Lost Valentinos. Of course, both Foals and Warpaint tour nationally as part of Laneway. Watch the jam below…
