Flight Facilities Has Launched New Song ‘Need You’ & Folks, It’s Real Smooth

Last arvo, Flight Facilities debuted their new single ‘Need You‘ on Triple J, and after a few listens, we’re calling it: it’s a bop.

The duo are probably best known for their habit of matching smooth synths with wistful vocals: after the somewhat left-turn of their funk-leaning last single ‘Stranded’, ‘Need You’ is a return to what we love ’em for.

That was the whole point: on Drive with Gen Fricker & Lewis Hobba, Flight Facilities’ co-captain Hugo Gruzman explained they wanted to “get back to what we did initially and see if we could recapture some of the same feelings we had when we did it.”

We’re definitely getting ‘Crave You‘ vibes, but if the singer had matured and chilled a bit. The vocals on ‘Need You’ are by NÏKA, who you don’t need to feel un-hip for not knowing. It’s Olivia Nott, the younger sis of Georgia Nott of Broods, who featured on ‘Stranded’.

Apparently it all came together in a very ad-hoc way – FF were in L.A. with Georgia, who was on the phone to Olivia, and they ended up hijacking the call. The rest is history.

Listen to to the track on Spotify and the likes, but if it leaves you needing more, Hugo hinted they might release their sophomore album this year. It’ll feature Georgia from Broods on more songs too, so they’re keeping it in the family.
