Cat Power Confirms Australian Tour, Looks Likely To Play Laneway

Triple j have confirmed that Chan Marshall aka Cat Power will be touring the country in February. “I just confirmed it,” she told the broadcaster. “The last Australian date is February 9th, that’s all I know.”

Those dates place her in the vicinity of next year’s St Jerome’s Laneway Festival (it ran from January 28th – February 12th this year), an increasingly likely possibility after the festival tweeted yesterday that “once again the ladies take centre stage at Laneway” following a spectacular 2012 lineup which included Anna Calvi, Laura Marling, Glasser, Feist, and EMA.

Earlier, the festival tweeted an article-cum-clue containing Five International Breakthrough Acts For 2013 and a “line-up hint if you look hard”. The acts they profiled included Purity Ring, Daughter, Japandroids, Jessie Ware and Haim, an all-American all-sister trio the festival pointedly insists will be “soundtracking the Aussie summer in one way or another!” INSERT GIGANTIC WINKING EMOTICON.

Cat Power’s ninth studio album, Sun, is released later this week. Laneway will make their first lineup announcement September 7th.
