Paul McCartney, he of the “Beatles members still alive“, has confirmed he’ll be touring Australia and New Zealand for the first time in 24 years this coming December.
McCartney’s currently on-going ‘One on One‘ world tour will visit familiar shores this coming December, with dates to be revealed in a planned Facebook Live chat and Q&A with Tim Minchin acting as host, which is scheduled to be broadcast tomorrow night at 7:30pm AEST.
McCartney’s last full Australian tour was way back in 1993. In 2002 Sir Paul was scheduled to perform two shows in Melbourne, but he abruptly cancelled them citing the then-recent Bali Bombings as the reason. At the time, McCartney stated that it was “not the appropriate time for a rock show.”
The ‘One on One‘ tour began snaking its way around the globe in April of last year, and travelled through the United States and Canada, as well as Argentina, a run through mainland Europe, a second visit to the US and Canada all in 2016, before picking up again in April this year with a short run through Japan.
Other planned tour dates between now and December includes yet another visit to the US and Canada, and a run of four shows in Brazil. Curiously, the United Kingdom is yet to feature on the tour schedule.
There’s no specific dates or venues just yet, but Melbourne’s AAMI Park is strongly believed to be the venue of choice in the Victorian capital.
