HOLY SHIT: Ben & Liam Are Leaving Triple J For Good At The End Of Next Week

In a fairly bombshell, out-of-the-blue announcement, Triple J management have confirmed that Ben & Liam will be stepping away from the Breakfast chairs at the end of next week, and will be leaving Triple J entirely as they make the move back home to Adelaide. Not wasting any time, the youth broadcaster has already announced their replacements, and it’s a bloody good pair of hires.

But before we get to that: Both Ben Harvey and Liam Stapleton will be leaving Triple J after three years in the Breakfast shift, with their last show now scheduled for Friday, November 1st. Which is really, really bloody soon.

The duo is set to return to their hometown of Adelaide for an undisclosed new opportunity, the details of which are unknown at this time.

In a short statement issued via Triple J this morning, Ben & Liam stated that they’ve had “an absolute blast at triple j,” and that “never in our wildest dreams did we think two dweebs doing community radio in Adelaide would get a crack at a gig like this.”

“Thanks for waking up with us, listening to our shit talk and sharing your stories, we’ll be forever grateful.”

In their place, Triple J has unveiled the new hosts of the coveted Breakfast chairs, set to debut in 2020: Sally Coleman and Erica Mallett, who you might know better as hip-hop duo Coda Conduct, or as the current Weekend Arvos hosts on Triple J.

Sally & Erica step into the Breakfast chairs with a wealth of radio experience already under their belts, having started out with their own hip hop show on FBi Radio in 2015, before becoming regular contributors to Triple J Breakfast during Matt & Alex’s tenure. From there, Sally & Erica spent ample time serving as fill-in hosts on a variety of Triple J programming, before scoring the permanent Weekend Arvos gig in 2018.

Ahead of the plum new gig, the pair issued a statement via Triple J, saying “we love making radio that makes you feel like you’re just chatting with your friends. We’re really pumped to get your stories, discover new stuff together, nerd out about music, and talk about the real shit and the dumb shit. Think Oprah Winfrey meets Flight of The Conchords.”

Regular presenter Lucy Smith is scheduled to step into the Breakfast chair temporarily from Monday, November 4th to flesh out the remainder of the year’s programming, before Sally & Erica step up to the new gig in 2020.

Big things comin’ at the Js, mates! Hooley dooley.
