Deadmau5 Has Been Suspended From Twitch For Using A Homophobic Slur

Electronic producer, Joel Zimmerman, better known as Deadmau5, has been banned from the game streaming platform, Twitch, for an outburst during a game of PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds.

While reportedly being stream sniped – a method in which other gamers watch a stream to find the streamer’s position purely to grief them – Zimmerman lost his cool, saying, “is that some fucking cock-sucking stream sniper fag,” according to those watching.

Twitch suspended Zimmerman’s account, but he went ahead and straight-up deleted the entire channel protest, saying he doesn’t have the “capacity to deal with that kind of shit” in a Reddit post. The Canadian producer has also cancelled all partnerships and any future affiliation with the platform. He went on to defend his actions, offering no apology.

“While it was intended to insult a fuckin asshat who was being a fucking asshat…. it wasn’t “directed at an entire group of people who have a sexual orientation that differs from my own” fuck off with that shit,” he wrote. “I know who I am, and I don’t have to fucking sit here and cry and defend my fuckingself with the obligatory “IM NOT THAT PERSON, I AM SORRY” reflex.”

Some have backed Zimmerman’s response while others have said his actions were indeed a violation of Twitch’s terms of service and that the platform was right to suspend him. It’s certainly not the first time he’s made comments which have ruffled feathers, either. Just recently he used the phrase “autistic shit” to describe a song by Slushii.

Since popular streamer, PewDiePie, called someone the N-word on a stream, Twitch has adopted a zero-tolerance policy towards such behaviour, meaning those caught are generally banned or suspended immediately.
