Oh Shit, Ben Simmons Just Became The First Aussie On The Cover Of ‘NBA 2K’

Aussie basketball superstar Ben Simmons will adorn the local cover of the upcoming NBA 2K19, becoming the first Aussie to have his face plastered on the sport’s most popular video game adaptation in the process.

The cover features Simmons, who recently racked up the NBA Rookie of the Year award thanks to his blockbuster season with the Philadelphia 76ers, surrounded by a suite of words with special significance to the 21-year-old.

Among those words: ‘Fitzroy’, ‘Melbourne’, and ‘Triple Double’. Hell yeah.

The cover forms part of a double-sided insert on physical copies of the game; the opposite side will feature the Milwaukee Bucks’ Giannis Antetokounmpo, who was also chosen as the game’s international cover star.

If it’s anything like previous titles in the series (it should be, unless the sport of basketball suddenly introduces trampolines, à la Slamball), NBA 2K19 will ruin friendships from its release date of September 11.

The game will be out on Xbox One, Playstation 4, Nintendo Switch, and on PC. That last one is notable, as Simmo himself is known to enjoy a spot of video game streaming.

Whether you will be able to literally beat him at his own game is another matter entirely.
