That stand-alone Joker film that nobody really wanted or asked for is racing ahead at full speed, because I guess every movie has to be has to be a prequel or a reboot or a superhero origin story now, and overnight, director Todd Phillips shared the first images of Joaquin Phoenix in character as the well-loved villain.

I mean, I don’t want to yuck your yum here, because maybe you are actually genuinely excited for this movie and you really want to see what the director of The Hangover trilogy can bring to the table, Joker-wise. Earlier this week, Phillips shared an image of a makeup-free Joaquin Phoenix in character as ‘Arthur’. The film has been described as an “exploration of a man disregarded by society that is not only a gritty character study, but also a broader cautionary tale”, and the accompanying pic gave off a very No Country For Old Jokers energy:
