YouTube Star Miranda Sings To Banish Haters In Her Own Show On Netflix

It’s a digital age, folks. And stars are no longer made the old fashioned way – discovered as down-on-their-luck waitresses/bellhops/railway workers by crafty fatcat casting agents with slightly sinister motivations.

With YouTube and Vine dominating digital media for youth audiences, it was only ever a mere matter of time before personalities created through the modern mediums started crossing over to the establishment.
We’ve already seen the likes of (the fucking wonderful) Grace Helbig join E! after building her name online. And it would appear that the next cab off the rank is the hugely popular Miranda Sings.
Miranda, the character in 2008 created by Colleen Ballinger-Evans, is set to star in her very own scripted series for Netflix entitled “Haters Back Off!
The scripted series will be the first of its kind for an Internet-borne star, and represents a pretty natural leap for the streaming giant to make.
Miranda Sings’ YouTube page – which has over 5.7 million subscribers – announced the series earlier today in a video that’s already received nearly half a million views.

Ballinger-Evans has been developing the Miranda Sings character diligently over the years by taking her live show on the road across the globe, including a stop at last year’s Melbourne International Comedy Festival.
Miranda has also appeared in mainstream media, being featured as a guest on The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon, as well as being the focus of an episode on Jerry Seinfeld‘s highly influential Comedians In Cars Getting Coffee.
No launch date for the Haters Back Off! has been set. The series will consist of eight episodes.
