Yahoo buys Tumblr for $1.1 billion, Tries to recruit “Young Folk”

Ecology for fashan blogging and reblogging and gifs that spur mass teen masturbation for Ryan Gosling, Tumblrwill be bought by Yahoo for 1.1 billion bit coins.

Jk! Yahoo apparently aren’t obsolete and made the purchase using real US dollars and not bit coins, despite doing most things suitably more shittily than consumer favourite Google.

A bold move from Yahoo CEO Marissa Mayer who is reportedly aiming to make Yahoo’ing a daily activity for Internet users everywhere. Yahoo Chief Financial Officer Ken Goldman last week commented “We’re working hard to get some of the younger folks.” Presumably saying things like “younger folks” does indicate a demand to target younger folks, with Ken (G)old man emphasising a focus on more content relevant to the 18-34 age bracket.

Tumblr has a total user-ship that encompasses 108 million blogs and more than 100 million visitors per month, most of whom are young folks in the aforementioned demographic. It this year introduced native advertising, (akin to Facebook’s sponsored posts) to spruik the humble $13 million in revenue that 2012 saw, and has mobility on its side— around 50% of Tumblrs (Tumblrers?) access the site via mobile. All of this is young, fresh, innovative— all in line with Yahoo’s intentions to Benjamin Button-ify their audience.
