Even if you hated President of New Zealand Peter Jackson’s decision to draw out a 300 page novel into a trilogy of films totaling the space of time it might require to read a 300 page novel, it’s hard to fault the filmmaker’s ability to translate the grandeur of Tolkien’s universe.
That much is apparent in the gorgeous new trailer for The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey followup The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug which follows Bilbo Baggins and his company of Dwarves as they continue their quest to reclaim the Lonely Mountain from Smaug the dragon. Look out for a familiar face who may or may not be married to Miranda Kerr and a slew of techinical awards during next year’s awards season. That gold be shiny.
The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug is set for release December 13.
