Watch New ‘The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey’ Trailer

Here is the new extended trailer for Peter Jackson‘s latest Tolkien adaptation The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey, also known as the most expensive New Zealand Tourism campaign of all time. Jackson returns to showcase his visionary world creating skills that made the Lord Of The Rings trilogy such a critical and commercial success: Sweeping shots of stunning NZ landscapes; the signature Tolkien balance of fantasy, creature-y horror and laugh-along humour; and Cate Blanchett convincingly otherworldly as Galadriel co-ruler of Lothlórien.

Several other Rings characters return for The Hobbit, including Ian McKellen as Gandalf, Christopher Lee as Saruman, Hugo Weaving as Elrond, Elijah Wood as Frodo, Orlando Bloom as Legolas, and Andy Serkis as the supremely fucked up Gollum. For those who haven’t had the pleasure of reading the books, you can look forward to meeting a bunch of fantastic new characters including the brave and sexy Thorin Oakenshield. Quote: “Loyalty, honor and a willing heart… I can ask no more than that.” Fantasy boner!

The story takes the titular Shire representative Bilbo Baggins (Martin Freeman) on epic quest to reclaim the lost Dwarf Kingdom of Erebor from the fearsome dragon Smaug. Watch the trailer for the first installment of Jackson’s Hobbit trilogy, which kicks off on 14 December 2012. As Gollum might say, we likes it.
