Here’s a doco people have been waiting on for ages.
Slenderman, the popular horror meme birthed from the SomethingAwful forums, is a tall, faceless humanoid in a suitv with long-ass fingers who lurks in the woods and abducts kids. Or adults. Or really does anything that the cooked minds of people online want him to do. It’s a perfect example of a shared fictional character who has all the basic elements that frighten anyone while also remaining generic enough to be put in a number of situations.
Slenderman was implicated in much more than just online spooks. In 2014 the myth became implicated in the near murder of a young girl who was stabbed by her 12-year-old classmates, supposedly at the orders of Slenderman. THe case is still in the Wisconsin courts, but HBO has produced a doco, Beware the Slender Man, which covers the case as well as the hysteria around the meme itself.
