Watch: Surfers Ride Two-Foot Swell Beside The Opera House

You know how in Point Break Bodhi describes the fifty year storm, that huge record waves bound for Bells Beach? Well the other night New South Wales and Victoria were hit by a real fifty year storm where wild weather formed massive swell all down the coastline. The storm was so crazy that a group of keen surfers found perfect two-foot waves in the most unlikely location: Bennelong Point in the Sydney Harbour, right beside the Opera House.

YouTube user Daz filmed the “perfect 2km wave” where “Marcie and Frimmy scored an epic sesh with no one else out”. Watch the amazing footage below. It was particularly amazing for me because I realised I never even noticed the big black rocks that form the point right out the front of the Opera House. You learn something new every day!

It looks pretty authentic but common sense and basic powers of observation make it pretty clear the video’s a fake but several viewers were convinced it was legit, including a producer from Channel Seven’s Sunrise who posted a comment under the clip requesting an interview. She has since deleted the request after another commenter tipped her off:

Cool:

It’s still a pretty swell video though.

Thanks to Barry and Andrew for the tip
