Watch Dan Ilic’s Sydney Monorail Spoof

After a massive all-nighter in the editing dungeon, Dan Ilic, as promised, premiered his Simpsons style monorail spoof on today’s SMH homepage. Filmed yesterday, the clip features Great Gatsby cast member Brendan Maclean, a Sydney specific lyric sheet, perfectly executed jazz hands, Barry O’Farrell references, Melbourne/Shelbyville comparisons and a topical bike lane joke which our current Lord Mayor might frown upon.

Or maybe not? Clover Moore cameos briefly after some “coercing” on Ilic’s part and does an awesome job of setting up that fixie joke. That was a lie. You did a terrible job of setting up that fixie joke. Why so wooden, Clover? Anyways, if you appreciate being lied to through song don a boater hat and pay tribute to the most useless public transport system in Sydney.

Dan had this to say when we spoke with him yesterday: “Brendan Maclean suggested to me on Twitter that we make a spoof of The Simpsons monorail clip. So I said ‘that’s a great idea, lets make it’. I pulled in Aaron Smith from Hungry Beast because, let’s face it, we’re all unemployed now so we’ve got plenty of time on our hands to make things like this. And the idea was for Brendan and I to roam around the monorail, finding whoever we could find to be in it, and make a clip. So it’ll be a low-rent clip that we made off our own dime for a bit of fun.”
