The hidden camera reality series once hosted by Ashton Kutcher’s trucker hat will return to MTV later this month for a ninth season fronted by a revolving cast of hosts including Bam Magera, Justin Bieber, Hayden Panittere and Nick Cannon.
No Kutcher this time but purists and schadenfreude hunters will be glad to know that the premise hasn’t changed – make celebrities cry or feel really, really bad about themselves – with the additional thrill that in the five years since Punk’d left our television screens the universe has created scores of new celebrities to dupe and more efficient ways to incinerate their vehicles and property. Most of the pranks are targeted at “new” celebs like Tyler the Creator, Chloe Moretz, Taylor Swift and Khloe Kardashian and seem to riff on the classic “lead X to believe they just blew up something really important to someone else” prank perfected in the show’s seventh season when Hugh Jackman is lead to believe he blew up Brett Ratner’s mansion.
