Veronica Mars’ Dick Casablancas Gets Spin-Off Show

If this year’s Veronica Mars movie wasn’t enough for you – if you still yearn for Neptune – then take heart. All your favourites are coming back. Kind of.

US cable network The CW’s digital arm, CW Seed, has announced Play It Again, Dick, a kinda sorta spin-off which will star Ryan Hansen and be co-written and produced by Veronica Mars creator Rob Thomas.

The series will take a meta approach to our favourite characters, with Ryan Hansen playing himself as he “begs, cajoles, and pleads with his former Veronica Mars castmates and friends to help him get his character, Dick Casablancas, his own spin-off show.” According to a press release issued by The CW, it’s set to include guest appearances by several Veronica Mars stars.

Veronica Mars ran on The CW for its final season in 2006 after original network UPN folded. It was cancelled due to low ratings, but it looks like as the show’s completed its metamorphosis into full-blown cult classic they’ve found their appetite for marshmallow again.
