We’re at James Franco’s house. The apocalypse is nigh. We’re at the most fantastical famous person house party ever and Mindy Kaling has just told us that “If I don’t fuck Michael Cera tonight, I’m gonna blow my brains out,” and just like that we’re all in on This Is The End, a super meta end of days comedy written and directed by Evan Goldberg and Seth Rogen (Superbad, Pineapple Express). Rogen also stars as one of six actor buddies trapped in Franco’s mansion turned bomb shelter post apocalypse alongside fellow Apatow players James Franco, Jonah Hill, Danny McBride, Jay Baruchel, and Craig Robinson.
This IRL kinship obviously does a fantastic comedic service to the film because as evidenced in the film’s initital teaser, the filmmakers aren’t creatively reluctant to poke fun at the cast – or themselves. Which is another way of saying this movie is just one elaborate way for Danny McBride to crush and deliver dialogue.
His best lines from the first teaser…
“James Franco didn’t suck any dick last night? Now I know y’all are tripping.”
“Seth, that’s a better performance than you’ve given in your last six movies. Where the fuck was that in Green Hornet?”
Has now been usurped by the best line in the trailer:
“Hermione just stole all our shit!”
Also, Rihanna slapping Michael Cera, Michael Cera blowing cocaine dust into McLovin’s face, Kevin Hart kicking Aziz Ansari into a fire pit and Emma Watson breaking down a door with an axe.
