We’re at James Franco’s house. We’re drunk. A little high maybe? Just took a photo with Rihanna. Whatever. It’s chill. We’re at the most humble-braggy celebrity house party ever and Mindy Kaling has just told us that “If I don’t fuck Michael Cera tonight, I’m gonna blow my brains out,” – and just like that we’re all aboard This Is The End, a rambunctious end of days comedy written and directed by Evan Goldberg and Seth Rogen (Superbad, Pineapple Express).
Rogen also stars as one of the six actor buddies trapped in Franco’s mansion/bomb shelter/Emma Watson pillage destination alongside fellow Apatow favourites James Franco, Jonah Hill, Danny McBride, Jay Baruchel, and Craig Robinson.
Obviously, the IRL friendships here do a fantastic comedic service to the film because the writers are completely comfortable with insulting the cast – and themselves. Which is just another way of saying that this is a multi-million dollar vehicle through which Danny McBride can crush and deliver dialogue.
His best lines from the first teaser…
“James Franco didn’t suck any dick last night? Now I know y’all are tripping.”
“Seth, that’s a better performance than you’ve given in your last six movies. Where the fuck was that in Green Hornet?”
Have now been surpassed by the best line in this trailer:
“Hermione just stole all our shit!”
Also of note: Rihanna slapping Michael Cera, Michael Cera blowing cocaine dust into McLovin’s face and Kevin Hart kicking Aziz Ansari into a fire pit.
This can’t come quick enough.
