Netflix Casually Drops That A ‘Cloverfield’ Sequel Is Landing Literally Tonight

Well this is a bloody tasty surprise. Netflix has confirmed via a Super Bowl ad that the anticipated second sequel to Cloverfield  – named The Cloverfield Paradox – is landing on the service… literally today. Like, right after the Super Bowl. They’ve also given us a trailer to enjoy, too:

We knew the film – previously called The God Particle – was coming, but we never knew it was coming quite this soon.

As you might recall, the first Cloverfield was about a gigantic monster wreaking havoc in New York while TJ Miller ran around with a handicam and was eventually murdered by said monster. 10 Cloverfield Lane followed a young woman who awakes to find herself trapped in an underground bunker by John Goodman who insists the world above is uninhabitable.

The link between those two films wasn’t entirely clear – even with the twist at the end of 10 Cloverfield Lane, which I won’t spoil – but The Cloverfield Paradox seems set to maybe shed some light on that. The film is set aboard an international space station when disaster strikes, though the nature of that disaster isn’t explicit.

Anyway, we’ll find out very, very soon. Check it out on Netflix tonight.
