The first trailer for James Gunn‘s The Suicide Squad is upon is, and it looks like a raucous and wild ride, featuring some returning faves like Margot Robbie‘s Harley Quinn, as well as a whole heap of new villains to stir up trouble.
Gunn, the director of the Guardians Of The Galaxy films, was famously poached by Warner and DC to bring some of that irreverent energy to their films, and based on first impressions, this one seems to have some of the humour that was lacking in David Ayer‘s earlier film.
If you’re confused as to how this one relates to the 2016 Suicide Squad well … so am I, to be honest. The official word is that is a ‘standalone sequel’, a film that exists in the same universe as its predecessor, but has “very little if any narrative connection” to what came before.

The new Suicide Squad sees the team sent on a rescue mission to a South American prison island, and as well as Margot Robbie and a returning Viola Davis, it stars Idris Elba as Bloodsport, John Cena as Peacemaker, Joel Kinnaman as Rick Flag, and many, many more.
