Turns out you can get quite a bit done when you’re not contractually obligated to play Prince Philip.

Matt Smith, he of The Crown and Doctor Who fame, has reportedly been slotted into a key role for the upcoming Star Wars: Episode IX film.

Citing a source close to the film’s production, Variety reports Smith and his ancient, mighty jawline will join mainstays Daisy Ridley, John Boyega, Mark Hamill, Oscar Isaac, and Adam Driver for the untitled sci-fi banger.

Carrie Fisher, who died in late 2016, will also feature in the film. It was previously announced that Episode IX will utilise footage captured before her death to carry on the story of General Leia Organa.

The nature of Smith’s role is not currently known, but it’d be pretty great if they just decided to slap old mate in swamp creature prosthetics, or simply ordered the 35-year-old to dance around in a mocap suit.

Star Wars: Episode IX, helmed by The Force Awakens director J.J. Abrams, is slated to arrive in cinemas December 19, 2019.
