The 13 minute behind the scenes trailer for Christopher Nolan‘s long awaited conclusion to the Dark Knight trilogy, The Dark Knight Rises, presents us with a Gotham City that’s basically gone to the dogs since Batman took an untimely retirement eight years ago. “Do you think he’s coming back?” We hope so or the movie’s going to be well dull and the title just won’t make any sense.
The featurette takes us behind the scenes to cast our eyes on an array of buildings exploding and discuss Nolan’s creative vision as well as the difficulties of blowing up a real life football field in the name of entertainment. There’s good news and there’s bad news – Gotham City is not real (the shooting took place across India, the UK, Pittsburgh, LA and Manhattan), but both the bat mobile and the bat cave do exist. You win some you lose some!
The film also sees Anne Hathaway pour herself into a punishing cat suit to play a seductress “with her own set of morals” (she’s obviously gone off the rails since the days of fetching Merryl Streep coffees), Joseph Gordon-Levitt challenge himself in the role of the nice, adorable guy and Tom Hardy takes the sheer girth of his shoulders to the next level as Batman’s physically stronger nemesis. Oh, and Christian Bale, Michael Caine and Morgan Freeman are all still in it and killing it.
