In what we’ll call the most impotent shoe-throwing display in the history of footwear-related political statements, some anemic hippie named Peter Gray lobbed both of his hessian moccasins at former Australian Prime Minister John Howard. The “attack” happened during last night’s episode of Q&A and unlike Bush shoe-thrower Muntazer al-Zaidi, Gray’s attempts landed nowhere near Howard’s sizable head.
Here’s something: If you intend to throw footwear at somebody’s head, especially a head with the built in gravitational pull of John Howard’s, DON’T nonchalantly fling your bed slippers like you just got home from retrieving the paper and were really looking forward to soaking in a relaxing, warm bath. That’s just weird and it makes it super awkward for everyone else, especially all of us now, watching your limp-wristed excuse for a throw float gently to the ground while Howard does that disingenuous smile thing with his eyes. Ugh.
