Shania Twain has already apologised for her “I totally would have voted for honest man Donald Trump“ comments, published overnight in The Guardian.
As we covered this morning, the Canadian singer told the publication that she would have voted for Trump because “even though he was offensive, he seemed honest. Do you want straight or polite? Not that you shouldn’t be able to have both. If I were voting, I just don’t want bullshit. I would have voted for a feeling that it was transparent. And politics has a reputation of not being that, right?”
Yet fast-forward to literal hours after that interview came out, Twain has apologised and sought to clarify her comments, calling her answer “awkward”.
“I would like to apologise to anybody I have offended in a recent interview with the Guardian relating to the American President. The question caught me off guard. As a Canadian, I regret answering this unexpected question without giving my response more context,” she tweeted.
“I am passionately against discrimination of any kind and hope it’s clear from the choices I have made, and the people I stand with, that I do not hold any common moral beliefs with the current President. I was trying to explain, in response to a question about the election, that my limited understanding was that the President talked to a portion of America like an accessible person they could relate to, as he was NOT a politician.
“My answer was awkward, but certainly should not be taken as representative of my values nor does it mean I endorse him. I make music to bring people together. My path will always be one of inclusivity, as my history shows.”

It was a super fast turnaround that didn’t exactly say she wouldn’t have voted for Trump, just that she didn’t answer all that eloquently in the first place. And as we wrote earlier today, while Shania Twain might be foremost known as a country music star, and country music might enjoy a largely Republican fanbase, she has long-embraced her gay icon status and feminist credentials, representative of two groups of people (among several) that are worse off under the Trump administration.
Some people are relieved they’re unreservedly to stan their icon again, while others are less impressed.
This is a very inadequate explanation given the destruction of the environment, Democratic norms & rise in hate crimes that have occurred in America this past year. You weren’t paying attention, you didn’t care & you should’ve said “I don’t know” if you really were this clueless

You have a pretty good amount of context. And when you “apologize to anyone offended” what you mean is “I meant what I said 💯 but still buy my stuff.”

Look, Shania, this guys a joke…one that’s not funny. And all Americans are affected by his idiocy. Simple as that.

And from a certain lot – mostly people with MAGA in their bio and Trump in their header pic – is anger that she walked back her stance in the first place.
Don’t let yourself be bullied by the intolerant left. Be proud of what you truly believe. You have no reason to apologize to an angry twitter mob.

Seriously? You just apologized for something you didnt need to apologize for only because the communist left started to bully you. I would have had more respect for you had you stood your ground and didnt then imply @realDonaldTrump is not inclusive. Damn shame

Let us think back to a happier time i.e. one week ago, when Shania Twain was hanging out with Timothée Chalamet, Nicki Minaj, The Weeknd and French Montana at Coachella.
Ahhhhhh, the good ol’ days.
