‘Serial’ Podcast Spin Off Led By Original Series Guest Rabia Chaudry Announced

There are only two types of people in this world: those who associate no particular meaning to the words “January 13th”, “Hae Min Lee”, “Woodlawn High School” and “Mail…Kimp..?”; and those who have an advanced knowledge of every inscrutable detail, timeline and court case associated with the 1999 murder of Hae Min Lee, who visit r/serialpodcast on the regular and who feel the absence of Sarah Koenig in their lives deeply.

By virtue of you being here and having clicked on this article, welcome, second type of person.

Rabia Chaudry,
an attorney who featured throughout the first season of ‘Serial’ has made an extensive post on her blog that is no less than freakin’ Christmas for the die-hard Serial fan among you.

The biggest news of the post is Chaudry’s announcement of ‘Undisclosed: The State v. Adnan Syed’ a new podcast featuring Chaudry and attorneys Susan Simpson, Colin Miller and the Adnan Syed Legal Trust that will “pick up where Serial stopped off” and “will examine and explore the case in greater detail, from an investigatory perspective instead of a narrative one. The first episode will launch on April 13, 2015.”

April 13? That’s Monday, nerds. Get keen. Chaudry pays respects to the Serial team in the post by saying, “we would be nowhere, and have no glimmer of hope for Adnan, without them.”

In her post, Chaudry also details the current status of Adnan Syed’s case, saying the stress that comes with it can be all-consuming: “Frankly, I’m treading water. Barely,” says Chaudry.

Chaudry went on to criticise the system which Adnan Syed has found himself within, while maintaining his claims of innocence for over fifteen years:

“From the day he was dragged out of bed at 17 until
today, he has not had the ability to walk from one room to another
without someone else’s approval. It is an undignified loss of freedom,
which is how we treat our prisoners. They’re less than human trash,
they’re collateral damage in a wholly inhumane prison industrial complex
that the average American doesn’t think twice about.”

The post also mentions how an Australian couple—Chris Rock, no not that one, and Dez Rock—helped Chaudry maintain her blog security pro bono when traffic and hackers were becoming too much. There’s also a slew of documents you can sleuth over to your heart’s content – Debbie Warren’s full statement! A grand jury testimony! Transcripts! Go ahead and lose your cool.

Meanwhile, there’s no word on what Serial’s second season will be about or when it will be dropped. :'(
